PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has asked the National Assembly to approve the sum of N10.06bn ($27.6m) to the Kogi State government prompting suggestions that the money could be used to fund November's forthcoming gubernatorial elections.

Uzoho expected to be out for at least six months after fracturing his anterior cruciate ligaments

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is expected to be out of action for at least six months after damaging his cruciate ligaments during Nigeria's recent 1-1 draw with Brazil in Singapore in an international friendly.

 

On Sunday, Uzoho was stretchered off in the 65th minute after he damaged his knee when he landed awkwardly after coming for a corner. He was replaced with debutant Maduka Okoye and subsequently given an MRI scan to determine the extent of his injury.

(1) Today is October 15. On this day in 1967, the tallest statue in Europe was unveiled in the Soviet Union. Named the Motherland Calls, it was also the tallest statue of a woman in the world. This edifice was erected as part of a memorial complex in Volgograd that commemorates the Battle of Stalingrad during World War Two. Designed by the sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and engineer Nikolai Nikitin it stands 85 meters high

Ecowas court orders Nigeria to compensate soldier who was dismissed for losing his rifle

MILITARY authorities have been asked by the Economic Community of West Africa (Ecowas) Court of Justice to pay Nigerian soldier Barnabas Eli a sum of N10m as compensation for his dismissal for losing a rifle.

 

Back in 2012, Private Eli was dismissed from the Nigerian Army after he lost his rifle. In addition, he was sentenced to two years imprisonment by a court martial without recourse to the confirming authority before enforcement.
