Education minister Mallam Adamu becomes latest official flown abroad for medical treatment

NIGERIA'S education minister Mallam Adamu Adamu has become the latest government official flown abroad for medical attention after he was rushed to Germany to undergo treatment for a kidney related procedure.

With what appears to be a recurring problem, Mallam Adamu has now been flown abroad three times in recent months. Mallam Adamu, who has not been seen in public in recent weeks, is expected back in the country soon.

It is not certain if he is going for a transplant operation or not but his ailment looks like something similar to what former President Umaru Yar'Adua went through. Born on May 25, 1956, Mallam Adamu is a long time ally of President Muhammadu Buhari and is thought to be one of his close confidants.

Prior to his appointment as minister in 2015, the Bauchi indigene was the secretary of  the Buhari Presidential Transition Committee. There are concerns that his absence has affected issues including reopening of schools and the University of Lagos leadership imbroglio, among pending matters in the education sector.

With Nigerian schools re-opening as the lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic is eased, Mallam Adamu was expected to be very busy at the moment. However, his assistants have had to take charge of the situation in his absence.
