Abuja resident sentenced to four months imprisonment for stealing neighbours 10-inch mattress

ABUJA resident Emmanuel Chukwu has been sentenced to four months imprisonment by a Karmo Grade Ine Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for stealing a 10-inch mattress from one of his neighbours.

Earlier today,  Mr Chukwu 23, was sentenced by the judge Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, who however, gave him an option to pay a N10,000 fine. According to the judge, the punishment and sentence would serve as deterrent to others who might want to steal.

Mr Chukwu, who resides at Mamasa Estate Galadima in Gwarimpa, within the FCT, was convicted on a count charge of theft. He had pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that a neighbour of the accused, John Nwaru, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, on April 21. Mr Dalhatu told the court that the accused stole the 10-inch mattress belonging to the complainant in contravention of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
