England woo QPR playmaker Ebere Eze in the hope of getting him to ditch Super Eagles

ENGLAND have stepped up pressure on Nigerian-born teenager Ebere Eze who currently plays in the English Championship with Queen Park Rangers (QPR) asking him to reconsider his decision to feature for the Super Eagles.

Eze, 19, is a highly rated playmaker and trained with the Super Eagles last year at the insistence of head coach Gernot Rohr. Apparently, Eze is reportedly close to getting named in Nigeria’s 35 man provisional list for the World Cup as Mr Rohr views him as the long term successor to captain Mikel Obi.

It is believed that Eze impressed Mr Rohr when he trained with the Eagles and featured in a training game organised by the coach among the players after the cancellation of a planned friendly game in London. Nigeria was clearly in the lead to secure his international future ahead of England but his performances in the last few games for QPR has made England take notice of his abilities.

Already, Eze has been assured that he will be given a chance with the England youth set up and if he does well he will progress through the ranks to play for the senior national team in the nearest future. However, Mr Rohr is certain to pursue the player more vigorously in what is likely to be a tug of war.
