Super Eagles suffer humiliating 0-1 defeat at the hands of minnows Guinea-Bissau in Abuja

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles have suffered a humiliating 0-1 defeat at the hands of lowly Guinea Bissau at the MKO Abiola Stadium on their third match if the 2014 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In what was a David and Goliath contest between two teams ranked 35 and 116 by Fifa, the Guineans managed to steal all three points in an empty Abuja stadium. Guinea Bissau got their goal in the 29th minute of play thanks to a strike from Mama Balde, the dashing winger who plies his trade with French Ligue One side Troyes.

This is the fourth successive loss the Eagles have suffered, having been defeated by Algeria, Costa Rica and Portugal in their last three games, with the  defence conceding eight goals in the process. After going behind, the Eagles made several attempts to equalise but the attack lacked bite and was wasteful in front of goal.

Nigeria now has six points from three matches and is a point behind Guinea Bissau who are on top of the Group A with seven points. Guinea-Bissau will now host Nigeria in Monday March 27 at the Nacional 24 de Setembro Stadium in Bissau.
