Glasgow Rangers hope to bring Josh Maja to Ibrox during summer transfer window

SCOTTISH Premier League giants Glasgow Rangers have made Nigerian striker Josh Maja a key summer transfer target as the clubs looks to strengthen its strikeforce ahead of next season.

Maja, 24, who began his playing career in England, has featured for  the youth teams of Crystal Palace, Fulham and Manchester City and then began his professional career with Sunderland, making 49 appearances and scoring 17 goals. In January 2019, he joined French side Bordeaux, where he is enjoying a good spell with 11 goals in France’s second tier this season.

Glasgow Rangers are nine point behind their rivals Celtic this season, with little chance of catching them but are hoping to address this next season by strengthening their squad. Rangers have made signing two strikers during the summer transfer window a top priority and Maja is one of the players in their sights.

Manager Michael Beale knows that he needs more firepower heading into next season and multiple signings are needed. Alfredo Morelos is out of contract this summer and currently looks likely to leave on a free transfer.

Antonio Colak is in decent form but has had injury problems this season, while Kemar Roofe sadly seems to be on the treatment table more often than he is on the pitch. Bordeaux are challenging for promotion but Maja may still leave this summer if the right offer comes in and Mr Beale must believe that he can get the best out of him at Rangers if the reports are true.

Maja, who has one Nigerian cap, has also had fairly unsuccessful loan spells at Fulham and Stoke City in recent years, failing to really show his best form. His last big season was in 2018/19 when he exploded into life at Sunderland, scoring 16 goals in 30 games, which

prompted Bordeaux to sign him.
