Tinubu promises administration of competence as he pursues double digit economic growth

NIGERIA'S new president-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has promised to run a government of national competence that will not only reflect the make-up of the country but also one that will deliver double-digit economic growth.

On Saturday February 25, Nigerians went to the polls to elect a new president and the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) subsequently declared Asiwaju Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner. He has subsequently assured Nigerians that his administration would not only be a government of national unity but also one of national competence.

He promised to assemble competent men and women and young people from across the country to build a safer, more prosperous and just Nigeria. These assurances were contained in a statement he issued titled Nigeria: At the Cusp of Renewed Hope.

Enunciating his commitment to an economy of double-digit gross domestic product (GDP) growth, greater food security and a strengthened manufacturing base, the president-elect said his administration would pursue an active digital economy where young people will have ample space to fulfil their dreams and aspirations. He added that with the elections over, there is a need to shun partisanship and join hands with him to build the Nigeria of our dreams.

Asiwaju Tinubu said: “I have set my course and mind on the leadership of this nation. We have important work to do and I am committed to getting that work done for the benefit of all the people, whether or not they voted for me or even voted at all.

“This is not the time for continued acrimony and partisan recriminations. These negative things can incite strong passions but they are not the pathway to a better nation. Only unity and national commitment can serve that purpose.

“I realise that I am the servant of a larger purpose and as such, I have gone straight to work. My team and I have been daily engaged in discussions and meetings refining our ideas and policy solutions so that we can begin actively working toward the common good the very first day we assume office.

“I do not ask you to abandon your political preferences as that would be undemocratic but I do beseech you to answer the call of patriotic duty as the loyal opposition. Remain loyal to the cause of a greater, more tolerant and just Nigeria. I too shall keep faith in this objective."

He added that he shall assemble competent men and women and young people from across the country to build a safer, more prosperous and just Nigeria. According to Asiwaju Tinubu, there shall be young people and women shall be prominent in his administration.
