Reno Omokri calls on Peter Obi to accept that Tinubu and APC used him to defeat Atiku

PEOPLES Democratic Party ((PDP) chieftain Reno Omokri has hit out at the Labour Party's presidential candidate former Anambra State governor Peter Obi saying the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) used him to secure victory.

On Saturday February 25, Nigerians went to the polls to elect a new president and Inec subsequently declared Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC, the winner. Among the main gladiators in the contest were Asiwaju Tinubu of APC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, ex-Anambra State governor Peter Obi of the Labour Party and former Kano State governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who served as the returning officer for the presidential election, declared Asiwaju Tinubu the victor of the contest with 8,794,726  votes, defeating Alhaji Abubakar of the PDP, who came second with 6,984,520 votes. However, the PDP and Labour Party have refused to accept the results, taking to the courts to challenge the APCs victory.

With a lengthy and bitter legal challenge on the cards, the APC, PDP and Labour Party have all put teams of lawyers together to fight their cases. However, ridiculing the Labour Party, Mr Omokri, a former special assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, has asked Governor Obi to accept that the president-elect Bola Tinubu used him to emerge victorious in the just-concluded presidential election.

According to Mr Omokri, Governor Obi was delusional to think he won the 2015 presidential election. Governor Obi came third in the presidential election after Alhaji Abubakar and Asiwaju Tinubu but despite this, he maintains that he won the poll and insists that he will contest the outcome of the election in court.

Mr Omokri tweeted: “What kind of delusion is making Peter Obi, who couldn’t win 25% of the votes outside the southeast, south-south and north central states with a sizeable Igbo population and Lagos, claim he won the elections? My friend, accept that Tinubu played you and lick your wounds.

“Two days ago Labour suspended Basambo Abubakar, its Kwara State gubernatorial candidate, for anti-party activities, while yesterday, Peter Obi asked Obidients to vote for PDP’s Cross River gubernatorial candidate Sandy Onor. Will Labour also suspend him or are there different rules for different folks?”

Governor Obi had originally been in the PDP but left just before the party's primaries after it became clear that he would not clinch the party ticket. He then stood as a Labour Party candidate in the elections, where he put up a good fight, coming third, winning in 11 of Nigeria's 36 as states and also emerging the victor in the Federal Capital Territory.
