Angry Delta State youths chase Elumelu away saying he has done nothing for their community

ANGRY youths in the Delta North Senatorial District have chased away their local lawmaker and the minority leader of the House of Representatives Hon Ndudi Elumelu saying he has failed to address their challenges over the years.

First elected into the House of Representatives in 2007, Hon Elumelu was re-elected on 2011 but after losing a governorship bid in 2014, he left to return in 2019. Having served three terms, the youths from the Oko Community in delta State, decided they did not want to allow him into their midst, saying politicians only make fake promises.

It took the efforts of the local Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate Ned Nwoko, to calm the irate youths. After several hours of persuasion, the youths who reluctantly listened to Mr Nwoko lamented the difficulties the community had faced over the years.

One youth leader said: “Since 1999, the PDP has been coming here to campaign but after elections they never remember Oko community. No road, no electricity among others social amenities.

“We have been voting for this PDP in all elections but nothing to show for it. Elumelu has been coming and making fake promises and he is coming again to deceive us for fourth time, that’s our anger and we don’t want such promises again.”

After the meeting, the youths compelled Hon Elumelu and others politicians to go to the religious shrine for an oath that they will address the community’s plight, especially the roads, if elected. Mr Nwoko assured the community that roads from Oko to Ndokwa East all the way through Isoko to Warri would be done and also promised to address the flooding menace that had been ravaging the community on yearly basis.
