Stan Collymore tells Arsenal fans to perish the thought of wining the English Premier League

FORMER Liverpool and England striker Stan Collymore has told north London side Arsenal to forget any illusions about winning the English Premier League title this season despite their flying start as they stand no chance whatsoever of emerging tops.

Arsenal have been the surprise package in the league so far this season, winning 10 of their first 11 matches and emerging as table toppers. This form is similar to that last seen when during the 2003/04 season when Arsenal went for 49 games unbeaten, lifting the Premier League title without conceding one defeat.

Nicknamed The Invincibles that season, that Arsenal team which featured Nigerian striker Nwankwo Kanu,  is regarded as the best ever. This current team, although playing well, is considered nowhere near as good and Collymore says Arsenal should perish the hope of winning the Premier League title this season as a result.

Later on today, Arsenal face a Leeds United side in desperate need of a win to revive its flagging season, at Elland Road. This match will be considered a litmus test for the Gunners who have so far coped well on their travels, only losing away to Manchester United when they went down 1-3 at Old Trafford.

Mr Collymore said: “I understand why some fans are excited to see what Arsenal can do but there is no way the Gunners are going to go on an emphatic 38-game run similarly to what we saw happen between Liverpool and City last season. No chance.”

Arsenal were on the verge of finishing top four and qualifying for the Champions League last season but collapsed towards the end of the season when it mattered most. This season, however, the team does look good enough to finish in the top four and qualify for the Uefa Champions League.
