Several English clubs eye Dipo Akinyemi as he emerges as top scorer in Scottish Championship

NIGERIAN striker Dipo Akinyemi has begun attracting interest from several English clubsides following his blistering form this season that has seen him emerge as the leading goalscorer in the Scottish Championship with 10 goals.

 

Akinyemi, 25, Ayr United in the summer transfer window on a two-year deal after catching the eye at Welling United, for whom he scored 16 goals in 37 appearances in the National League South over the course of the 2021/22 season. He has scored twice as many goals as second placed Robbie Muirhead of Greenock Morton and Simon Murray of Queen's Park who have five goals, despite playing a game less than both of them.

 

According to Football League World, Bradford City, Burton Albion, Leyton Orient and Morecambe are now all keen on the Ayr United striker. Akinyemi has either scored or assisted in seven of his last eight matches in the division and the highlight of his performance was his hat-trick against Queen's Park last weekend.

 

Akinyemi has also played for Potters Bar Town, Stevenage,  Dulwich Hamlet and  Braintree Town in the past. Born in 1977, Akinyemi began his career in the youth academy at Potters Bar Town in 2011, breaking into the first-team in 2014 before moving to Stevenage later that year.
