Lampard asks Iwobi to improve his game in the final third if he want to become a complete player

EVERTON manager Frank Lampard has charged Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi to work on improving his contributions in the final third of the pitch if he wants to build on his fine form this season and become an all round creative spark.

This season, Iwobi, 26, appears to have finally found his feet at Everton following his £40m move to Merseyside from Arsenal in 2019. After an initial rocky bedding in period, Iwobi has emerged as arguably Everton's best player this season, putting in brilliant performances week after week.

This has prompted many Arsenal fans to request that their club resign Iwobi, who is a product of the club's Hale Academy. Having joined Arsenal as a kid, Iwobi came through the youth ranks, breaking into the first-team squad in 2015, going on to make 149 appearances for the north Londoners, scoring 15 goals and providing 27 assists before being sold to Everton.

Praising his performance so far, Mr Lampard has, however, highlighted the areas Iwobi needs to work on to make him a complete player. Mr Lampard has moved Iwobi into a central midfield position, where the player has rewarded his boss with four assists in eight league appearances.

Mr Lampard said: “Can he add more to his game? Yes. In and around the final third he can do more because his talent says so.

“In-game he can do more too. He can assist more and maybe score himself a bit more but I’m not complaining there, as he’s been fantastic for us."

So far this season, Iwobi has played every minute of Everton’s eight Premier League games, making him a central figure in the side. Iwobi is expected to be in action when Everton host Manchester United at the Goodison Park tomorrow evening.
