Oliseh appointed as a Fifa technical expert alongside Wenger and Klinsmann for Qatar World Cup

FORMER Super Eagles skipper Sunday Oliseh has been appointed as a Fifa technical expert ahead of the 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar later this year alongside several footballing icons including Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klinsmann.

 

Oliseh, 49, who also previously coached the Nigerian senior football team, will work with former Arsenal boss Wenger and German legend Klinsman to draw up technical reports during the tournament. Oliseh, who up until a few weeks ago, was the manager of German lower league side SV 19 Straelen, took to Twitter to express his delight with the appointment.

 

He wrote: “Extremely honoured to have been appointed by Fifa as a technical expert for the World Cup in Qatar. I will be in the privileged company of Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klinsmann and three others.

 

"Work started last night. Qatar 2022 is looking great and ready."

 

A former Ajax, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Oliseh made 54 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring twice, the most memorable being the winner in the 3-2 victory over Spain at the 1998 World Cup. He won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations trophy with Nigeria and was a key member of the Nigerian squad that won Africa’s first-ever football gold at the Olympic Games in Atlanta ’96.

 

Oliseh coached the Super Eagles briefly in 2015/16 and was also the manager of Dutch club Fortuna Sittard for about a year. he started off his European playing career art Genk in Belgium before moving to Reggiana, becoming the first Nigerian player to ply his trade in Italy.
