Boro look to sign Brentford's Frank Onyeka on loan before transfer window closes

ENGLISH Championship side Middlesbrough are closing in on a season-long loan deal for Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka before the close of the transfer window tomorrow as they are lure the Brentford man with the offer of regular football.

Onyeka, 24, joined English Premier League side Brentford from Danish club Midtjylland in what was the joint-highest sale ever by the former Danish Champions. Last season, Onyeka was a Brentford regular but as the season wore on he played less and since the start of the current campaign, he has struggled to get playing time at all.

Last season, Onyeka saw a massive reduction in his game time towards the end of the campaign, making a total of 20 league appearances in total. This season, however, Onyeka has only played 66 minutes out of a possible 450, seeing just 10 minutes in Brentford’s four Premier League games so far.

According to Skysports Middlesbrough are in talks to sign Onyeka on loan. Boro have had a torrid start to the season, picking just one win from seven matches and manager Chris Wilder is looking to add quality to his squad.

With the summer transfer window closing at 11pm on September 1,  Boro have just two days to seal the deal. This summer has been full on with Premier League clubs already breaking their spending records, with gross spending in the top-flight standing at £1.5bn with a week of the window remaining, exceeding 2017’s record of £1.43bn spent in a summer window.
