Wike and Tinubu meet up in London along with several APC and PDP governors

GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has met with the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in London yesterday sparking fears that he may abandon his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In late June, the PDP elected former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its flagbearer for next year's presidential election at its annual convention. Governor Wike was a candidate in that election but he was beaten into second place and to make matters worse for him, he was not then picked as the party's running mate.

With Alhaji Abubakar opting to pick Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate, Governor Wike has been on the war path and there are now fears that he will dump the PDP. Among other things, he has been fraternizing with members of the ruling APC  lately, amid talk of him possibly decamping.

With the party deeply divided, the Atiku camp has begun making overtures to Governor Wike but it appears that he is still very aggrieved. Last weekend, a delegation of PDP past and present governors travelled to Port Harcourt to meet with Governor Wike but so far they have been unable to resolve all the issues.

Adding further spice to the drama Governor Wike met with Asiwaju Tinubu in London on Monday, along with several APC and PDP governors. One source in the Tinubu camp said the parley was held in London but did not reveal details of what was discussed.

He added: “Governors Sanwoolu and Fayemi were equally part of the delegation. Don’t forget that Sanwoolu and Fayemi earlier went with Fayose and Akeredolu to see Wike in Port Harcourt on behalf of our principal.

Apparently, PDP governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie  Ikpeazu of Abia State and Seyi Makinde, were among those who attended the meeting. Most of the governors are expected back in Nigeria tomorrow.
