Super Eagles to face Desert Foxes of Algeria in a friendly game on September 27

NIGERIA'S Super eagles are to face the Desert Foxes of Algeria in a friendly game at the New Stadium in Oran on September 27 as the two countries continue their preparations for next year's African Cup of Nations.

Both Algeria and Nigeria missed out on going to this year's World Cup, succumbing to Ghana and Cameroon at the final hurdle respectively. However, they are both preparing to participate in next year's continental championship taking place in Ivory Coast and are rebuilding their teams for this purpose.

Ay the last African Nations Cup that held in Cameron in 2019, Algeria crashed out unceremoniously despite being the defending champions. Nigeria too left the tournament in disappointment, exiting at the Round of 16 stage despite the Super Eagles winning all their three group matches.

However, both teams are now back on the rise with Algeria wining four of the five games it has played of late, beating Uganda, Tanzania and Iran. Since the 2019 African Cup of Nations, the Desert Foxes only defeat was to Cameroon, which cost them a ticket to the World Cup to be held in Qatar this November.

Nigeria's Super Eagles have not been in action since handing a 10-0 drubbing to Sao Tome and Principe in June. Coach Jose Peseiro will be hoping to use this match to end the losing streak against Algeria as Nigeria lost her last two matches against the deserts Foxes, falling 2-1 in the semi finals of 2019 African Cup of Nations and losing 1-0 friendly in a friendly against Austria in October 2020.
