Super Eagles fullback Jamilu Collins out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury

SUPER Eagles fullback Jamilu Collins will miss the whole of the remaining part of the 2022/23 season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury which he picked up on Monday in the opening minutes of Cardiff City’s 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

In a big blow for Collins who had been hoping to help Cardiff gain promotion back to the English Premier League, he limped off the pitch in the opening minutes of the game. Cardiff City manager Steve Morison, confirmed that the left-back ruptured his ACL and will require surgery which will keep him out for the rest of the season.

Mr Morison said: “We won’t see him again until next season, it’s gutting for the lad, really gutting. We are all here for him and we are going to make the next year the best it can possibly be for him.

“It’s the worst-case scenario. We will try and get him back for pre-season next year. One thing we do know is we will have one hell of a left-back next season.

“On a plus point for him, his family has just moved over and he has his family with him now. The lads will get behind him, he will be around. I’m sure you’ll see his smiling face around the place.

“He is a great kid, he comes in with a smile on his face every day. He loved working every day with us and we loved working with him. He is someone you want around. He is infectious. As soon as he has his operation and he’s a bit more mobile he will be around the lads.”

Collins was named Man of the Match on his competitive debut for Cardiff City. He joined the Bluebirds on a free transfer this summer after severing ties with Bundesliga Two club, SC Paderborn.
