Kizz Daniel apologises to Tanzanian fans with free live performance in Dar es Salam

AFROBEAT musician Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe popularly known as Kizz Daniel has made it up to his Tanzanian fans who he let down earlier this month when he failed to appear for a show by staging a free performance for them in Dar es Salam.

Last Sunday, Kizz Daniel failed to show up for a concert, claiming his luggage which contained his gear had gone missing in transit. Despite pleas, to honour the waiting fans, the entertainer refused to take to the stage, resulting in the Tanzanian police arresting him for breach of contract.

Music industry commentators and professionals alike have condemned Kizz Daniel for his actions, saying it smacks of arrogance and taking his fans for granted. In response to the criticism, the entertainer performed for free over the weekend,  putting up an impressive performance with fans singing along to some of his hit songs including Buga, Oshe, Mama and Yeba.

At a point during his performance, he paused and said, “I want to know if I have the real Kizz Daniel fans in the building tonight. I am talking about the fans from 2014 because I want to test you guys and you have to pass the test. Are you ready to pass the test?”

He then performed some of his other hit songs such as Woju, Laye and One Ticket. However, his performance had some disruptions due to the poor sound from the technical crew and he had to abandon his live band and rely on the disc jockey towards the end of the performance.

One of the highlights of the show was when he brought out the Tanzanian flag on stage and apologised for failing to perform last Sunday. Also, his outfit was designed in the colours of the country’s flag.

Kizz Daniel said: “I think I have to come back because I owe you guys a proper show because this sound is not making me enjoy my performance tonight. I promise you guys that I will come back. I love you and I thank you and the promoters for coming out tonight.”

On Sunday, August, 7, after Kizz Daniel failed to perform at a show, angry Tanzanian fans went on a rampage destroying property at the venue of the show. He was then arrested but released after the intervention of the Nigeria Diaspora Commission.
