Cardiff City snaps up Nigerian-born Kion Etete from Spurs who insist on buyback clause being inserted

ENGLISH Championship side Cardiff City have signed Nigeria-eligible striker Kion Etete from Premier League clubside Tottenham Hotspurs in a £500,000 deal that includes a buyback clause.

Etete, 20, will have a medical today ahead of completing his move to the Bluebirds after the two sides reached an agreement. Etete, a Derby-born attacker was farmed out on loan to two Football League clubs in 2021/22, starting the campaign at Northampton Town before finishing the season at Cheltenham Town.

Last season, Etete recorded 35 appearances in the Football League, scoring six goals and registering four assists. He is set to become the third player of Nigerian descent to join Cardiff City this summer after Super Eagles defender Jamilu Collins and 2017 U20 World Cup winner Sheyi Ojo.

Under the terms of the deal, the initial transfer fee for the player is £500,000 pounds plus performance-related add-ons. According to the report, Tottenham Hotspur rate Etete highly and insisted on inserting a buyback clause into the deal as they may likely want him back at some stage.
