Iheanacho gets on the scoresheet and Ndidi returns from injury in Leicester pre-season win

BOTH Nigerian players in the Leicester City team featured in the club's pre-season friendly against Derby County yesterday that saw the Foxes secure a 3-1 victory with striker Kelechi Iheanacho getting in among the scorers.

Yesterday's game against English League One side Derby, was Leicester's fourth pre-season friendly and for Leicester it was significant in that it heralded the return of Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi who has been out injured for the three months. Earlier this month, Ndidi suffered a setback on his way to recovery when he picked up an injury on training but he appears to have fully recovered now.

Leicester City were the better side in the first half yesterday afternoon but they failed to break the deadlock. Iheanacho and Daka looked sharp in front, constantly keeping the Rams’ defenders on their feet with their runs.

However, the Foxes’ quality prevailed in the second half, as Iheanacho struck a well-placed shot with his left foot into the net, leaving Derby goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith in limbo. Ndidi looked solid on his return but Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers hauled him off on the hour mark for Mendy.

Derby County soon capitalised on the absence of the Nigerian and drew level in the 62nd minute. However, they were unable to hold on as goals from Patson Daka and Callum Wright ensured that the East Midlanders ran out with a 3-1 victory.
