Ndidi suffers injury setback as he prepared for new season twisting his ankle in training

SUPER Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has suffered another setback in his bid to return to full fitness ahead of the forthcoming English Premier League season twisting his ankle during a training session yesterday.

Ndidi, 25, has been out of action since March when he suffered a knee injury in a match against Rennes in the UEFA Europa League. Having missed the end of the season, he was keen to get fit again so he could start the 2022/23 season with Leicester City, where he is one of the fans' favourites.

So far, Ndidi is yet to make an appearance for Leicester City in any of its pre-season games despite returning to training with the rest of his teammates earlier this month. Yesterday, his recuperation was put in jeopardy after Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, revealed that the midfielder sustained an ankle injury while exercising at the club’s pre-season camp.

Mr Rodgers added: “We’ve got one or two knocks, with Wilf twisting his ankle in training a few days ago. We don’t think it’s too serious, it’s a high ankle sprain, so he had a scan on it and it’ll hopefully be okay.

“We’ve just looked after him really. He won’t be involved at the weekend but of course, hopefully, next week at some point he’ll be back training.”
