MULTIPLE award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has been honoured by her alma mater the University of Kent in Canterbury with an honorary doctorate degree as part of this year's congregation ceremonies.

Savage, 42, a mother of one, completed a degree in Accounting at the university in her 20s when she lived in the UK and was one of 10 alumni honoured today. She was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music during the ceremony which took place at Canterbury and Rochester cathedrals this afternoon.

Back on July 5, the university announced its intention to honour some of its alumni, including Tiwa Savage, in recognition of her outstanding and inspirational performances in the music industry.
