Premier League giants Leeds considering putting in £20m bid for Emmanuel Dennis

SUPER Eagles striker Emmanuel Dennis could be on his way to Leeds United soon after it emerged that the English Premier League giants are considering putting in a £20m bid for him to his current club Watford.

Dennis, 24, joined Watford at the beginning of last season from Belgian side Club Brugge and was one of the revelations of the campaign, scoring 10 goals in 33 appearances. With Watford now relegated and due to play in the second tier of English football next season, big clubs are lining up for Dennis' signature.

A relegation clause was signed when the player put pen to paper on his Watford contract, so Dennis will not be moving with the club to the Championship and is expected to command a transfer fee of anywhere between £15m and £20m. Since the end of the season, Premier League sides Brentford, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Leeds, Aston Villa and Everton  have all made enquiries about Dennis.

It appears that Leeds United are the ones most likely to put in a firm bid though, as the club is on the verge of getting about £110m from the sale of two key players. With Manchester City prepared to pay £45m for midfielder Kalvin Phillips and Barcelona told to find at least £65m for winger Raphinia, Leeds will have plenty of spare cash for rebuilding.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, said: “Two unnamed Premier League clubs are interested in Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis who has four years left on his contract. Watford are relaxed and likely to want £20m for a player they bought for £3m and who scored 10 Premier League goals last season.”

Give Me Sport journalist Dean Jones, reported in April 2022 that Leeds could look to sound out the Nigerian over a move this summer. Signing Dennis would make a lot of sense for Leeds as they will get a proven Premier League goal scorer who is capable of playing all across the front three.

Back in April, Mr Jones said: “From what I understand, they would much prefer to have somebody who has had a taste of life in England, scoring goals at the top level, so Dennis might be a player they sound out. I don’t think it’s one that’s been mooted yet but absolutely, that is the level of player that they’re looking at.”

Leeds are also reported to have now opened talks with an incredible title-winning central midfielder to replace Kalvin Phillips. So far, Leeds have made about three signings since the transfer window opened as the club looks to beef up its wafer thin squad which suffered badly from injuries last season.
