Paul Scholes advices Man United to sign Wilfred Ndidi during the summer transfer window

FORMER Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has advised his old club to sign Super eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi during the summer transfer window if they are serious about becoming title contenders again.

When Scholes was a player, Man United were regular league winners or runners in an annual basis but of late the club has become an average mid table side. Last season, Man United finished in sixth place, way outside the Uefa Champions League places with a mere 58 points compared with the 93 secured by champions Manchester City.

Urging his former side to do something about this, Scholes has called on Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag to sign Ndidi ahead of the new season. Scholes described Ndidi as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game and one who would not come expensive as he was previously deemed, owing to the years remaining on his contract at Leicester.

Ndidi has been out injured for more than two months but has managed to be among the finest performers in his position and Scholes, a world class midfielder in his days and a prominent Mancunian voice has said the Nigerian will fit the bill. During his first two seasons in the Premier League, Ndidi was adjudged to have  won more tackles than any other player.

Scholes said: “Leicester’s Wilfred still very much fits the bill of what Man United are looking for and with just two years remaining on his contract at Leicester, it’s likely to cost significantly less than the eye-watering sums associated with him in summer past. While he missed the last two months of the season with a knee injury, he remains one of the best defensive midfielders in the game when fit, averaging an astounding 6.5 tackles and interceptions each match and ranking in the top 7% of midfielders for aerial duels, too.”
