Sanwoolu faces challenge as Ambode associate Wale Oluwo submits nomination form

GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwoolu us facing a challenge to his bid to get re-elected as the Lagos State chief executive after Wale Oluwo an associate of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode submitted his nomination form.

Yesterday, Mr Oluwo submitted his N50m governorship form to the headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja. Mr Oluwo, who is the chairman of the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organisation, was the commissioner for energy and mineral resources during Governor Ambode’s tenure.

He submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to the party yesterday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Mr Olowu vowed to defeat the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwoolu in the APC governorship primary elections later this month.

So far, only the two aspirants have submitted governorship forms in Lagos State. In April, the governor’s advisory council (GAC), the highest decision-making organ of the party headed by APC chieftain, Bola Tinubu, endorsed Governor Sanwoolu for a second term.

In 2018, the GAC had kicked against the second term bid of Governor Ambode, which led to the emergence of Sanwoolu as the APC candidate in the 2019 governorship election in the state. Since he left office in 2019, Governor Ambode has been extremely politically reserved and has not been seen at functions with any of his predecessors or his successor.
