Fayemi to officially announce his candidature for presidency tomorrow in Ado Ekiti

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State is to formally launch his 2023 presidential campaign tomorrow in Ado Ekiti making him an official All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as the race gathers pace.

Next year, Nigeria will hold general elections after which President Muhammadu Buhari will be replaced and the battle to succeed him is heating up. Already several heavyweights are already in the contest, with vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu both vying for the APC ticket.

In the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, the presidential aspirants include former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former senate president Dr Bukola Saraki and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi. Several other lesser candidates are also in the race including Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

This morning, the Ekiti State commissioner for finance and economic development, Akin Oyebode, published a video tweet, saying his principal is ready to go. In the one-minute video tweet by Mr Oyebode, Governor Fayemi unveiled his Nigeria agenda ahead of the 2023 general election.

Sounding upbeat in the message Governor Fayemi said: “The Nigeria of our dreams is possible. A Nigeria that is the pride and joy of all, among others.”

In what will now be a heated battle, the APC primaries taking place between May 30 and June 1 will involve a clash of heavyweights. President Buhari has recently said that he has no preferred candidate and will back whoever is elected.
