Ngige says he expects his supporters to pay half of his N100m APC nomination form fee

LABOUR and unemployment minister Senator Chris Ngige has expressed confidence that his supporters will raise the hefty sum of money required to purchase his presidential nomination form after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) fixed it at N100m ($240,000).

Last week, senator Ngige announced his candidature for president but almost immediately, the party's national executive committee announced a whopping registration fee. Explaining how he planned to cover the cost of the form, Senator Ngige said he had planned to spend N50m and get his supporters to cover the rest.

APC presidential candidates have to pay a fixed cost of N30m for the interest form and N70m for the party's nomination form. A 50% discount is available for candidates who are less than 40 years old and, while the form will be free for women and persons living with disabilities.

While many Nigerians have condemned the party for the outrageous prices, the APC has defended its decision and said Nigerians make enough money to afford it. Senator Ngige said  he will not crucify his party for making the form so expensive.
