Super Eagles to play pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico's El Tri in Texas on May 28

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles are to play a friendly match against Mexico's El Tri on May 28 as the North American side lines up a series of friendlies in the run-up to this year's World Cup taking place in Qatar in November.

 

Taking place at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, the match will be the first game the Eagles will play since they were unceremoniously dumped out of the World Cup by Ghana's Black Stars. Mexico, who came second behind Canada in the Concacaf qualifiers, have been grouped alongside Saudi Arabia, Argentina and Poland in the World Cup.

 

Several other teams going to the World Cup may want to play friendly games against the Eagles as part of their preparations. These games may be the first task that the new Super Eagles coach has to deal with upon assumption of office.

 

At the moment, the Nigerian Football Federation is in the process if appointing a new coach for the Super Eagles. Apparently, some of those interested in the jib and nig named in the footballing world, including the likes of former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, former PSG and France coach Laurent Blanc and former PSV Eindhoven manager, Phillip Cocu.

 

Nigeria's Super Eagles are still seen as worthy adversaries by many in spite of their failure to make it to Qatar as the team possesses good players performing in top European leagues. Ecuador for instance, who have been grouped alongside Senegal, Qatar and the Netherlands.
