Nigerian Bayo Dosunmu recommended to be appointed as Lambeth chief executive

LAMBETH Council’s Appointments Committee has recommended that Nigerian-born Bayo Dosunmu be appointed as the council’s chief executive subject to the approval of full council meeting in May.

Mr Dosunmu, currently the council’s deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services, was approved unanimously by a cross-party panel of councillors chaired by Cllr Claire Holland, the council leader. They opted for the decision following an announcement by Lambeth’s current chief executive Andrew Travers, that he intends to stand down after more than four years in the role.

Councillor Holland said: “I’m delighted that the panel unanimously recommended Bayo Dosunmu to be Lambeth’s next chief executive. His true passion and commitment for Lambeth, already demonstrated in the last few years as a senior leader at the council, came through incredibly strongly in the interview and he demonstrated his abilities to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead for our borough."

Black people make up about a quarter of the Lambeth population and the borough's largest non-white ethnic group is black African, who make up 11.5% of the population. Black people make up around a third of the population of Lambeth, accounting for 30.4% of the population.
