Goodluck survives fatal accident in which two members of his security detail lost their lives

FORMER president Dr Goodluck Jonathan narrowly escaped death yesterday evening after he was involved in a car crash in Abuja that resulted in the death of two members of his security detail.

 

While on his, way to his Abuja residence from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Dr Jonathan was involved in a ghastly accident that led to the deaths of police inspectors Ibrahim Abazi and Yakubu Toma. They were both members of his security detail and Ikechukwu Eze, Dr Goodluck's spokesman has offered condolences to the families of the deceased officers.

 

He added that two other officers involved in the accident are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja. Dr Jonathan described the incident as painful and heart-rending, adding that the deceased inspectors were fine officers, who were dedicated to their duties and service to the nation.

 

Dr Jonathan added: “Two other officers sustained injuries in the accident which involved a car conveying the security men. They were rushed to hospital in Abuja where they are responding to treatment.”

 

He then sent condolences to the families of the bereaved and the police high command. In addition, the former president prayed to God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and bless their families and the nation with the fortitude to bear the loss.
