Premier League officials block Burnley's move to bring Victor Moses back from Russia

ENGLISH Premier League officials have scuppered a move by relegation-threatened Burnley to bring former Super eagles winger Victor Moses back to the premiership using a loophole that allows clubs to recruit players playing their trade in Russia.

Moses, 31, who has 37 caps for Nigeria, has played in England for Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, West Ham, Stoke City  and Wigan Athletic.  Last year, he made his loan move to Spartak Moscow permanent, as on July 2 2021, the club announced that he signed a two-year contract with the club and on February 10 2022, Moses extended his contract to 2024.

However, following the outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine, Fifa has provided a special window allowing foreign players to move to safer climes during the season. Exploiting this loophole, Burnley sought to being Moses back to England but were stopped by Premier League officials at the last moment.

Premier League officials cited sporting integrity as the reason for their decision. With the Russo-Ukrainian war raging, Moses' stay at Moscow has been somewhat tumultuous, as although the Russian league is still in full swing, his safety is not assured.
