Buhari arrives back in Abuja at the end of his two week medical leave in the UK

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari slipped back into Abuja last night unnoticed after spending a two week medical vacation in the UK where he met with his doctors over an undisclosed health condition.

Earlier this month, President Buhari flew into London for what his spokesman Femi Adesina said would be routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks. In line with the script, the vacation did not last more than two weeks as the president flew back into Abuja yesterday.

Since assuming office in 2015, President Buhari has been plagued with health concerns and has to visit his doctors in London at least once a year. In some instances, he has had to stay away for elongated periods, during which he handed over the running of the country to vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

President Buhari left Nigeria for the UK on March 6, having changed his original travel plans. He had earlier planned to fly straight to the UK from Nairobi, the Kenyan capital after attending the United Nations Environmental Programme at 50 but instead returned to Nigeria on March 4 and flew out from Abuja two days later.

Last night, the presidential aircraft carrying President Buhari touched down at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 7.09pm. While in London, the president met with Mai Mala Buni, the interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress caretaker committee.
