Dancing Senator Adekleke claims victory in Osun State PDP governorship primaries

SENATOR Ademola Adeleke as emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) gubernatorial candidate ahead of the Osun State July 16 governorship elections after coasting to victory in the party's primaries.

Yesterday, the PDP held its primary elections in the state capital Oshogbo and according to Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the chairman of the electoral committee, Senator Adeleke won with 1,887 votes. Presenting a certificate of return to Senator Adeleke, Mr Ewhrudjakpo noted that 1,916 delegates were accredited while 24 invalid votes were recorded.

However, the victory has split the party locally as one of the losers in the election, Dotun Babayemi has refused to concede defeat. According to Wale Ojo faction of the party which is backing Mr Babayemi, their candidate polled 1,781 votes.

Claiming victory, Mr Babayemi noted that it is not a victory for him but a victory for all other aspirants who stepped down for him. It is expected that the two factions will now end up in court as a bitter legal battle is looming to determine who is the bonafide PDP candidate.
