Ekong returns to fitness for Watford making him available for World Cup play-off

ENGLISH Premier League side Watford has declared Super eagles skipper William Ekong fit again indicating that he will be available for Nigeria's World Cup play-off against Ghana later this month.

 

Nigeria will play Ghana is a two-legged play-off that will determine who qualifies for the World Cup, with the first leg taking place at on Match 25 at the Cape Coast Stadium and the second leg holding at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Sunday, March 29. Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has called up 25 players for the tie, with Ekong one of them.

 

However, it had been feared that Ekong would be unavailable after he missed Watford's last match against Arsenal due to an injury. With coach Roy Hodgson ruling Ekong out of action, it had been feared that Ekong would not feature but the defender has miraculously regained fitness and is back in training.

 

A Watford spokesperson said: "William Troost-Ekong makes his return to full training today following a minor groin problem. However, tomorrow’s Molineux encounter is likely to come too soon for the Nigeria captain.”

 

Watford face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday and the club confirmed that Ekong has regained fitness but tomorrow's game is too soon for him. Ekong's return will be a huge relief for Mr Eguavoen.
