Man United told they need to find £100m if they want to lure Osimhen to Old Trafford

ENGLISH Premier League giants Manchester United have been told by Italian side Napoli that they will; have to find at least £100m if they want to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the summer.

Manchester United are one of the clubs that has been keeping tabs on Osimhen with a view to signing him when the transfer window opens at the end of the season. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick, has been told to provide the club’s chief executive Richard Arnold with a shortlist of potential replacements for Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, who are both expected to leave at the end of the season.

Osimhen heads this list as he is a player who was on Rangnick’s radar but after being quoted a £100m asking price by the Serie A giants,  Man United may now explore other options. Cavani is expected to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer in the summer and Ronaldo could part ways with United for a second time in his career, if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Larentiis spent a club-record £70m to sign Osimhen from Lille in 2020. It made the 23-year-old the most expensive African player in history, and De Larentiis clearly wants to make a profit on the player that is in his second season in Italian football, if he were to be sold.

Osimhen has 21 goals and seven assists to his name from 52 appearances for Napoli, while for the national team, he has 10 goals from 18 caps. Mr Rangnick has major reservations about the prospect of Ronaldo spearheading Man United’s forward line next season, so has to decide if paying £100m for Osimhen is his best option.

Ronaldo is said to be no his last legs and Mr Rangnick's patience is wearing thin with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo has only  managed one goal in his last 10 games and looks to be struggling with confidence and his ability to keep up with the pace of the Premier League at the age of 37.
