Super Falcon Ashleigh Plumptre nominated for English Women’s Super League Player of the Month

RECENT Super Falcons debutant Ashleigh Plumptre has just been nominated for the English Women’s Super League February Player of the Month as her incessant rise over the last few weeks keeps getting better by the day.

 

Plumptre, 23, made her Nigerian debut last week when the Falcons beat the Female Elephants of Ivory Coast in an African Women's Nation Cup qualifier in Abuja 2-0. After putting in a woman-of-the-match performance, she was given a standing ovation by the fans who hailed her with chants of: "Oyinbo, Oyinbo, Oyinbo."

 

At club level, Plumptre has put up outstanding performances too making two appearances for Leicester City Women this month, helping her side to victories on both occasions, with a goal to her name. This morning, the Women’s Super League just released its shortlist for the February player of the month and Ashleigh was recognised for her displays.

 

Competing for the accolade  with Plumptre are Chelsea duo Ann-Katrin Berger and Jess Carter, Ashleigh Neville of Tottenham Hotspurs and Alisha Lehmann of Aston Villa. A former England youth international, Plumptre successfully switched he allegiance to Nigeria, with Fifa approving her application last month.

 

Plumptre  netted her first ever goal in the Women's Super League as Leicester City thrashed West Ham 3-0 on February 13, rising highest to nod the ball into the bottom corner after eight minutes. She is currently with the Super Falcons at Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, training  ahead of their reverse fixture against Ivory Coast.
