Governor Oyetola floors Aregbesola's candidate in Osun State APC primary elections

GOVERNOR Gboyega Oyetola of Osun Sate has clinched the gubernatorial ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after seeing off a challenge from the former secretary to the state government Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.

 

On July 16, Osun State will go to the polls and Governor Oyetola is chasing a second four-year term in office. he is already halfway there after seeing off a fierce challenge as Alhaji Adeoti was backed by the governor's predecessor, the current internal affairs minister Rauf Aregbesola.

 

At the end of the APC primaries conducted yesterday, Governor Oyetola was announced as the winner by the chairman of the electoral committee Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State.  Apart from Alhaji Adeoti, the former deputy speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Lasun Yusuf also stood in the elections.

 

Announcing the results in Oshogbo the Osun State capital early this morning, Governor Abdulrasaq said 247,207 accredited voters participated in the exercise and the total number of votes cast was 235,550. Governor Oyetola beat Alhaji Adeoti with a wide margin of 222,169 votes to 12,921, while Hon Lasun polled 460 votes.

 

Prince Gboyega Famodun, the chairman of Osun State chapter of the APC, thanked the primary election committee for conducting credible polls. On March 7, the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold its primaries , with Senator Ademola Adeleke seen as the front runner.
