Edwin Clarke urges Tinubu to forget about the presidency saying he will back Osinbajo

PAN Niger Delta Forum (Pandef) leader Edwin Clark has warned former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu against seeking the  All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket  saying he should leave it to younger candidates like the vice president.

With Nigerians due to elect a new president in 2023, Asiwaju Tinubu has already launched his presidential campaign. Although so far, vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo is yet to declare himself a candidate, a momentum is growing for him to ruin as he is considered a safe pair of hands, who is not only energetic and intelligent but also relatively young.

One problem Asiwaju Tinubu faces is that he is seen as an sick old man who is too frail for the job, especially as he frequently needs medical check-ups abroad. Earlier this month, Asiwaju Tinubu vane to see his doctors in London and recently, photographs of him soiling himself have been ported all over social media.

With President Muhammadu Buhari have spent the last eight years regularly getting medical treatment abroad, Asiwaju Tinubu's health has become an issue. In addition, his official age is 69 but the former Lagos State governor is thought to be at least 80 years old and there are fears that he may not have the vigour for the job.

Chief Clark said Asiwaju Tinubu should go and rest despite coming from the most sophisticated region of Nigeria.

Featuring on Arise TV, the elder statesman said he would rather vote for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to become Nigeria’s next President. He described Professor Osinbajo as an intelligent man who has what it takes to rule Nigeria in 2023.

Chief Clark said: “I’m not aware of Jonathan running for presidency. I’m a father to him and he has not informed me about such intentions.

“The southwest is the most educated and sophisticated people in Nigeria but Tinubu should go and rest. Other than the Igbos, I would vote for the nice president as he is an intelligent fellow."
