Arsenal become desperate to sign Osimhen in the summer as Lacazette and Nketiah get set to leave

ENGLISH Premier League side Arsenal has become the latest team seeking to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after it emerged that Ginners manager Mikel Arteta has made him the club's main priority in the summer after a move for Alexander Isak fell through.

Osimhen, 23, is one of the hottest properties in European football at the moment and is constantly being linked with big money moves. He joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 from Lille after scoring 18 goals in 38 goals for the French side and despite a series of unfortunate injuries, he has continued to shine making him highly sought after.

In spite of a nasty facial injury this season, that has among other things made him miss the African Cup of Nations, Osimhen has scored 10 goals in 17 appearances for Napoli. Italian transfer news portal  Calcio Mercato reported towards the end of January that Newcastle were considering a late move for the striker but Napoli wanted a fee between £58m and £66m, which scuppered the deal.

According UK tabloid The Mirror, Arsenal is now the club most keen in bringing Osimhen to England having made him their top priority after a move for Swede Alexander Isak fell through.  With Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah expected to join Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in leaving Arsenal in the next few months, a new striker is absolutely pivotal and manager Arteta believes Osimhen fits the bill.

Apparently, Osimhen fits in with the kind of signings Arsenal have made recently. This includes players with plenty of experience but who are still younger than 25 such as Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Osimhen has pace to get in behind defences but he can hold the ball up and is superb with the ball at his feet as well as being great in the air. He can also start the press and run the channels, leading to Walter Mazzarri branding him as phenomenal.
