Over 100 Iswap terrorists and their family members surrender to Nigerian Army in Borno State

NIGERIAN military authorities have reported that as many as 104 Islamic State of West Africa Province (Iswap) terrorists and their families have surrendered to troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade in Borno State.

Since 2009, Boko Haram and its breakaway group Iswap have been waging war against the Nigerian state as they seek to form a pure theocratic theocracy in northeast Nigeria. Borno State has been the epicentre of their activities and at one time, the terrorists controlled large swathes of territory there.

Over the years, the Nigerian Army has gradually been clawing back territory, however, with some terrorists surrendering in large numbers as a result. Earlier today, the Nigerian Army revealed that this process accelerated of late as the 104 individuals turned themselves in to the men of the 25 Task Force Brigade based in Damboa town in Borno State.

Those who surrendered included 22 males, 27 females and 55 children. A Nigerian Army spokesman, said: “Iswap and their families numbering 104 comprising 22 males, 27 females and 55 children surrendered to troops of 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa, Borno State on Saturday 5 February 2022.”
