Shehu Sani advises Buhari not to retire to Daura when his tenure ends over insecurity fears

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has been advised by the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District Senator Shehu Sani not to retire to Daura next year when his tenure ends because of security concerns.

After eight years in office, President Buhari will leave office next May and it is expected that he will retire to his private residence in Katsina State. However, Senator Sani has advised against this saying he is worried about the spate of insecurity in the state, which has led to the killing of over 1,192 persons and abduction of over 3,000 others.

Armed bandits have been operational in Katsina State now for several years, holding large swathes of territory to ransom, kidnapping at will and unleashing terror on rural communities. Despite repeated attempts by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State to end the problem by agreeing an amnesty deal with the bandits, the headache has refused to go away.

In one instance last year, armed bandits struck in Katsina State while President Buhari was visiting, attacking a school and abducting dozens of pupils. Bearing all this in mind, senator Sani said President Buhari should reconsider his plans to return to his farm in Daura when his tenure ends..

Senator Sani said: “That bandits killed 1,192 and kidnapped over 3,000 in Kaduna last year alone, outpaced the number of people killed and abducted in Yemen and Libya. If this is the state the president wants to retire and settle, he must secure it first.”

Just yesterday, it was reported that armed bandits killed a village head identified as Alhaji Jafaru Rabi’u and abducted a lady at Daddara Liman in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. Apparently, the terrorists also killed four other people in the nearby Daddara village after looting the area.
