Spurs plan to make summer bid for Osimhen after Napoli rebuff recent January offer

ENGLISH Premier league giants Tottenham Hotspurs plan to make an audacious bid for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the summer after being rebuffed by his club Napoli when they made a bid during the recent January transfer window.

Valued at around the £70m by Napoli after signing him in the summer of 2020 in a part-exchange deal that estimated his worth to be around £30m at the time, Osimhen is currently one of the hottest strikers in world football. It is believed that Spurs enquired about the striker during the recent transfer window but got short shrift from the Serie A side.

Keen to boost their attack, which they see as an Achilles Heel, Spurs made an enquiry for Osimhen, 23, in the hope of signing him. An A-list new striker is a key target of the Londoners going into the summer regardless of Harry Kane’s future as manager Antonio Conte often plays two strikers in his favoured 3-5-2 formation.

A the moment, the two striker positions are being taken by Kane and Son Heung-Min but Mr Conte desperately needs top quality cover and competition for them. Osimhen fits perfectly into that category after establishing himself in Serie A and at international level for Nigeria as a ruthless goal scorer.

So far this season, Osimhen has scored nine goals from 18 matches in all competitions, during which he has missed two months with a fractured cheekbone. That, combined with Covid-19, ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations although Osimhen has returned as a substitute in Napoli’s last two matches.

Also, Osimhen’s performances in the Europa League have impressed Spurs recruitment staff this season. He has 19 goals and five assists from 46 Napoli matches as well as 10 goals from 18 Nigeria fixtures.
