Onuachu gets engaged to Ghanaian fiancée as ex-Brighton boss Chris Hughton set to be named Black Stars manager

SUPER Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has just got engaged to his Ghanaian girlfriend Tracy Acheampong as former Brighton and Hove manager Chris Hughton is appointed as the new Black Stars manager ahead of their World Cup play-off with Nigeria.

In the final qualification round for Qatar 2022, the Black Stars of Ghana will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria on 22 March, with the second leg coming up in Abuja six days later. In what is being dubbed the jollof derby, the two West African neighbours are set to lock horns in what is becoming an increasingly tense affair.

Earlier today, Mr Hughton, who has a Ghanaian father, was spotted in Accra where he has gone for talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the sports ministry. An announcement confirming his appointment as the new Black Stars manager who will handle the World Cup play-off with Nigeria is expected any time soon.

Last week, the GFA sacked coach Milovan Rajevac following a dismal performance at the Africa Cup of Nations where Ghana finished bottom of Group C, with a solitary point coming from a draw with Gabon. Ex-Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr was among those being considered to replace him but it appears the GFA have now settled for Mr Hughton.

Adding further spice to the drama, Onuachu, the Super Eagles striker who plays for Belgian club Genk, announced his engagement to his long-term Ghanaian girlfriend Tracy Acheampong today. Posting a picture of the two of them on Instagram post after he proposed to her in Paris, Onuachu revealed that she had agreed to marry him.

Onuachu, 27, has been dating Tracey since his days at Midtjylland after they first met at Amsterdam Airport. Although she has a relatively quiet social media life, Onuachu has never been shy to show her off and the two lovebirds were recent present at Peter Olayinka’s wedding.

In addition, she was in attendance as her fiance received the golden shoe award for the 2021/22 Jupiler League after emerging as the top scorer in Belgium. Onuachu missed out on the recent African Cup of Nations due to an injury but is expected to be in camp for the World Cup play-offs.
