Nigeria may not have heard the last from Gernot Rohr as Ghana look to sign him for Black Stars

NIGERIA may not have heard the last of former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr yet as there are indications that he may be appointed as Ghana's manager and lead the Black Stars out in the impending World Cup play-off between both nations in March.

In the final qualification round for Qatar 2022, the Black Stars of Ghana will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria on 22 March, with the second leg coming up in Abuja six days later. Last year, the Nigerian Football Federation sacked Mr Rohr as the Super Eagles manager after a string of poor results and his replacement is yet to assume office.

Ghana too is going through a managerial merry-go-round as Milovan Rajevac was recently sacked as the Black Stars manager after a very poor African Cup of Nations outing. Ghana was embarrassingly dumped out during the group stages of the tournament after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Comoros, who were making their first ever appearance in the competition.

Currently in search of a new manager, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is believed to have approached Mr Rohr and the two sides are said to be negotiating the terms of a contract. GFA officials are believed to have passed the details of their discussions on to Ghana's sports ministry and are awaiting the go-ahead from officials there.

On the other hand, the Nigerian Football Federation is yet to agree the terms of a contract with Portuguese coach José Peseiro, who it appointed to replace Mr Rohr in December. Mr Peseiro is thought to be very unhappy about all this foot dragging as a contract was supposed to have been signed before the Cup of Nations began earlier this month.
