Iswap invade Gujba in Yobe State ransacking health facility and burning down fertiliser plant

ARMED terrorists from the Boko Haram breakaway faction the Islamic State of West African Province (Iswap) have taken over the town of Gujba in Yobe State and razed down a fertilizer blending factory after looting the local government headquarters.

Iswap broke away from Boko Haram and last year enjoyed significant military victories over its former parent group, reported to have killed its leader Abubakar Shekau. Growing in strength by the day, Iswap confidently invaded Gujba the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area today, burning down a fertilizer blending factory and setting ablaze an ambulance after looting medical supplies from the government health facility in the town.

Gujba is about 45km south of the Yobe State capital Damaturu and apparently, the insurgents who operated without any opposition from the security forces did not touch any civilian during the attack. Despite the heavy military presence in the state, there is no suggestion that the Nigerian Army were called in during the attack.

Dr Mohammed Goje, the director-general of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, said: “Early this morning, the insurgents sneaked in and succeeded in burning the fertiliser plant in Gujba and also set ablaze an ambulance in the community. There is no loss of life nor injury sustained from the side of the civilians and security operatives are on top of the situation."
