White Calling teams up with Canuk to offer cheaper calls to Nigeria

TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant White Calling has teamed up with the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) to offer the diaspora cheap calls that will enable them to call home at half the current costs.

Kicking off what is going to be a long-term partnership, White Calling has taken the responsibility of being the main sponsor of Canuk's end-of-year dinner on December 17th 2021. Taking place at Regency Banqueting Suite in Tottenham, Canuk's gala dinner kicks off with a red carpet reception at 6pm, it has been tagged ‘Reuniting the Community After the Lockdown.’

Offering its full support to the event, White Calling is offering £5 free app credit to every guest, placing them in goody bags, which will be supplied by retail outlet Ades Supermarket. Every guest who attends will get one of these cards and will be asked download the app and load the free £5 credit on the night.

A White Calling spokesman said: "Canuk and White Calling will both get the best out of this partnership as we are looking at working together over the long term. We are starting off with sponsoring the Canuk end-of-year party but we are in the for the long haul as we offer a unique product that allows diasporans to call back home at the cheapest rates.”

"As well as £5 free credit, everyone who attends will go into a draw, from which there will be three winners, who will get prizes on the night. Our aim is to achieve 350 downloads on the day and a further 650 as word about what we are offering spreads."

Put together as a classy event, the Canuk dinner will involve a three course dinner, music, live entertainment, raffle draws and plenty of dancing. On the day, a few initiatives will also be announced including the admission of about 14 new member associations, who will be awarded welcome certificates on the night.

Canuk chairman, Ayo Akinfe, said: "We are delighted to enter into this partnership with White Calling as many telecommunications make millions from our people but offer nothing back in the form of corporate social responsibility. White Calling is different as they are aware of the civic obligations to their clients and customers and Canuk is happy to recommend them to the Nigerian community in the UK.

"This is by far the biggest Nigerian event in the year as the high commissioner Ambassador Sarafa Ishola will be the special guest of honour, so will be an ideal platform for White Calling to introduce themselves to the community. We have other sponsors like Ades Supermarket and Tropical Sun, who are also being supportive in other ways and we would like to thank all of them for their support."

Princess Christian-Iwuagwu, the Canuk financial secretary urges everyone who wants to purchase tickets to do so by paying directly into the Canuk bank account. She added that they can still do this by making payments into the association's Lloyds Bank account with the sort code of 301553 and account number 00224400.

Doyin Owoeye, Canuk's social secretary, added that the new member associations who will receive welcome certificates on the night include the Nigerian Students Union UK, the Nigerians in Community Essex, the Nigerian Community in Nottinghamshire, the Egba United Society, the Nigerian Disability Association UK, the Association of Professional Wedding Engagement Coordinators of Nigeria UK Chapter and Hussey College Warri Old Students Association UK. They will be joined by organisations who have just applied for membership including Nigerian Community in East London, Isoko Women's League UK, Nigerian Community in Luton, Brent Nigerian Community, Nigerian Community in South Wales, Nigerian Community in Exeter and Diaspora of Nigeria Organisation Worldwide.
