Alex Ferguson hits out at Arsenal fans for hounding Arsene Wenger out of the Emirates

FORMER Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hit out at Arsenal fans over their attitude towards his one time rival their ex-head coach Arsene Wenger saying they should be ashamed of themselves for hounding him out of the Emirates.

Between 1996 and 2018, Wenger managed Arsenal, during which he and Sir Alex were bitter rivals as the two teams took turns in competing for the league title. Apart from the fact that Arsenal won a lot of silverware under Wenger, the team also played some scintillating football that won over a lot of neutral fans.

However, towards the end of Wenger's reign,  the trophies dried up, leading to disaffection among the fans, forcing the manager to leave the club ahead of schedule.  Wenger, 72, wanted to see out the remainder of his contract with the Gunners but pressure from the fans led to him walking away a season earlier than planned.

While a large section of Gunners supporters protested against Wenger’s reign outside of the Emirates Stadium, others brought ‘Wenger out’ banners into the stadium. In the new film titled Arsene Wenger: Invincible, Sir Alex , hit out at the supporters for their treatment of Wenger.

Sir Alex recalled that Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cup trophies during his time at the club. He added that the Frenchman kept them in Europe every year and yet he was criticised.

In the film, Sir Alex said: "The supporters should be ashamed. Arsene and myself are dinosaurs but we didn’t do so badly.

“I won 13 leagues but I was never near going through a season undefeated. The achievement stands above everything else, and it was Arsene’s.”
