Hoodlums burn bus carrying foodstuffs in Enugu as they enforce Ipob's sit-at-home order

ARMED hoodlums believed to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) set a bus containing foodstuff ablaze in Enugu this morning as they sought to enforce the Indigenous People of Biafra's (Ipob) sit-at-home order.

Following the arrest of Ipob leader Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya and his arraignment before an Abuja court, his supporters have called for sit-at-home protests across the southeast geo-political zone. These protests are to take place every Monday, and the ESN, Ipob's armed wing, is always out and about every week to ensure compliance, with its militants parading major cities and towns enforcing the directive.

This morning, a bus conveying tomatoes, vegetables and other foodstuffs in Enugu was set ablaze for violating the sit-at-home order. Apparently, the Ford vehicle was set ablaze at Edem junction, Ibeagwa, Nike, in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State around 5.45 am this morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was reportedly coming from the Ugwogo end of the Opi/Enugu bypass when it was blocked and set on fire. Sympathisers were said to have put a call to the Enugu State Fire Service, prompting a quick response by the Ogui Road fire service station.

Last Monday, Enugu State did not observe Ipob's sit-at-home, although there was low traffic and a shootout was later that day reported at the Garki suburb of Enugu metropolis. Ipob's  leadership has announced an end to the Monday sit-at-home but some hoodlums insist that it must continue until Mr Kanu is released.

Violent attacks on those disobeying the order has forced residents of most parts of the southeast to continue obeying the order. This latest attack has brought to four the number of buses conveying goods and foodstuffs that have been burnt lately.
