Fifa approves the use of Teslim Balogun Stadium for Nigeria's October 7 World Cup qualifier

GLOBAL football federation Fifa has approved the use of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos as the venue for Nigeria's forthcoming World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic taking place on October 7.

Sitting at the top of Group C with six points from two games so far, Nigeria's Super Eagles resume their World Cup quest next month. Home and away games take place against Central African Republic on October 7 and 10 respectively in Lagos and Bangui, from which Nigeria will be hoping to get six points and qualify for the next stage.

However, the second leg will be played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon, because Central African Republic's Stade Barthélemy Boganda in Bangui did not get Fifa clearance. In their last qualifier, the Central African Republic hosted Cape Verde at the Douala stadium after their national facility was not approved to host the qualifiers.

Nigeria played her first game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, beating Liberia 2-0 and then three days later secured a 2-1 away victory in Cape Verde. Under the African qualification structure, the 10 group leaders will be involved in a final knock-out round from which the five winners will qualify for Qatar 2022.
