Rally planned in solidarity with Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Igboho today in Oyo State

YORUBA Nation agitators are planning a huge demonstration in Oyo State today in the  town of Igboho recently named after Sunday Adeyemo the civil rights campaigner who is currently being detained in neighbouring Republic of Benin.

On July 1, Mr Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, fled after his Ibadan home was raided by security forces who killed two of his aides and arrested a further 13. Mr Igboho subsequently turned up in Benin Republic but was arrested at Cotonou airport while he was trying to board a plane to Germany and is now in court facing several immigration charges.

In solidarity with him, his supporters have named a town after him on Oyo State and today, a massive rally is planned there. A few days ago, controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi visited Igboho, a move described by the Aare Ona Kakanafo, Otunba Ganiyu Adams, as provocative.

Olayomi Koiki, Mr Igboho’s spokesman, said: “Yoruba Nation rally will be happening in the town of our Father, Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho Oosa. Date is11th of September 2021, time is 10 am, while the host is Gbogbo Omo Yoruba Agbaye.”

Mr Igboho who was first detained at the Brigade économique et financière, is currently at Prison Civile de Cotonou, the Cotonou Civil Prison. In the last judgment, the Cour De’appal De Cotonou ordered that Mr Igboho should be kept in prison custody while the hearing lasts.
